I've spent my career analyzing and pushing the limits of human strength, and today, I want to talk about why I believe Hafthor Bjornsson is the greatest deadlifter of all time. Whether you side with the Eddie vs. Thor 500kg and 501kg debate, one thing is clear—Thor is the strongest man ever from floor to waist. I’ve talked about Eddie’s unmatched static strength before, but when it comes to the deadlift, Thor reigns supreme. Standing at 6’9” and 440 pounds, he’s built for power. When he first pulled 1,000 pounds on Instagram, I wasn’t convinced. It looked slow, choppy. But then he hit 470kg weeks later, and that’s when I became a believer. Watching his journey, I saw the key reasons why he’s a deadlifting phenomenon: Genetic Advantage: Thor has freakish proportions—his femurs are 17% shorter, and his arms are 17% longer than average, giving him the ultimate mechanical edge. Leg Strength: He squatted 460kg with ease, laying the foundation for moving insane weight off the ground. Elite Coaching: Bringing in world-class coach Sebastian Oreb helped refine his stance and technique, dialing in every detail for maximum power. Hamstring Flexibility: This allows for peak force production at the bottom of the lift—an underrated but crucial factor. In 2019, he attempted 501kg on the Elephant Bar and fell short. But now, he’s coming back stronger. If he pulls it off this time, we’re looking at the strongest deadlift ever performed, hands down. I’ll be there to witness it firsthand. Will he do it? Is it his build, his training, or is he just an absolute mutant? I’ll let you decide. Drop your thoughts in the comments of my newest YT video and let’s keep pushing the limits of strength together. Lift heavy, stay strong, and be kind. - Mitchell Hooper
